About Me

Hi, I’m Vicki Rutwind, a Brooklyn-based travel blogger and social media content creator.

A CANADIAN IN BROOKLYN

I’m originally from Edmonton, Canada (yes, the 6-month winters there are cold!), and have lived in New York City for over a decade.

Although Instagram might make it look like I travel full time, I live in a beautiful old Brownstone in Brooklyn with my husband. We have a family house in Scottsdale, Arizona, so Arizona has been a second home to me for the last 13 years. You’ll also see me visit the UK at least once or twice a year, since my husband’s family lives in England and Wales.

AN ATTORNEY TURNED EXPLORER

FashionTravelRepeat is a destination where you can find travel guides, Instagrammable photography guides and other tips to help you with your travel plans. I focus on luxury and boutique travel experiences around the world – so no camping, but yes glamping. I love to explore beaches, cities, national parks, you name it.

This blog could never have happened if I hadn’t taken the leap to become a full time creator and blogger. Why? I used to be a corporate attorney at a big law firm in New York City. And not like for a few months or a year. It was a full-blown career and I was coming up to a huge promotion.

I had the fancy office, an assistant, a fancy salary and shoe collection to rival Carrie Bradshaw’s. But I was unhappy. I was burned out. I was getting sick all the time. I barely saw my boyfriend-now-husband. I worked seven days a week and was grateful on the odd occasion that I could actually take Sunday off. I had no hobbies. I didn’t have time for hobbies.

From corporate attorney to following my dream!

A WORLD TRAVELER

Through this all, the one thing I could really look forward to was taking my vacation days, which I used to explore Japan solo, glamp in the Sahara Desert in Morocco, drive a convertible around Hawaii’s Big Island, try (and fail) to learn how to surf in Nicaragua, float in the Dead Sea in Israel and sail around Croatia before anyone had heard of Game of Thrones.

And, I’ll be honest with you, it was HARD to take vacations as a lawyer. My co-workers were the type of people to brag that they “hadn’t taken a vacation in years”. I never understood why that was something to brag about. Travel is an essential part of my lifestyle and wasn’t something I could give up. So I took as many vacations and weekend trips as I possibly could, even if that meant working in the car to the airport, at the airport, on the plane, and during any down time during my trip.

Towards the end of my then career, I started an Instagram account, @vickirutwind. It originally started off as a creative outlet where I could share colorful outfits in NYC and during my travels. But the longer I had the account, the more I realized that travel, rather than fashion, was my true passion.

Do I know exactly what’s in style for the upcoming season? Sort of. Can I tell you where to stay in Kyoto, Japan, or the best time of year to visit Banff, Canada? Definitely! So as my Instagram account evolved, it led me to focus more on travel and I ultimately launched this blog as a way to share longer form content from my travels.

A DREAMER + A RISK TAKER

In April 2018, I took a huge leap of faith. I decided to choose a life of adventure, happiness and excitement. So, I quit my job to pursue FashionTravelRepeat full time and have been a solo-preneur ever since.

I’m so grateful to be living the life of my dreams, and I hope to inspire other women to do the same. Thank you so much for visiting my blog, and don’t be afraid to get in touch! I would love to hear about your past adventures, your bucket list, or your upcoming travel plans.
