FAQs for Using Presets

What Are Presets?

Presets are filters for your photos that you can use in Adobe Lightroom. Lightroom is a computer program and app that gives you an amazing amount of control over editing your photos.

Unlike using a filter in an app like VSCO, you can apply a Lightroom preset to a photo and still have total flexibility to continue editing the photo until it looks exactly the way you want it.

I use presets to edit all of my Instagram photos. First off, it saves me a ton of time because I don’t have to edit each photo individually from scratch. Second, I use the same few presets for all of my Instagram photos. That helps me get a consistent color scheme and flow to my Instagram feed.

What is Lightroom?

Lightroom is a photo editing and process computer program and app. In my opinion, it’s the best photo editing program for beginner photographers as well as professional photographers.

Is Lightroom Free?

The desktop version of Lightroom costs about $10 per month as part of a bundle that also includes Photoshop. The Lightroom app is free.

Will the Preset Work on Phone Photos?

Yes, the preset will work on pics you take on your phone. When you take a photo on your phone, it’s usually in JPEG format. This preset works for both JPEG and RAW photos.

I personally shoot all of my photos in RAW format on a camera. If you shoot your photos in RAW format on a camera, you will have more control over your editing than if you edit a phone photo/JPEG.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FREE PRESET FILES MUST BE DOWNLOADED FIRST ONTO A COMPUTER. YOU CAN THEN AIRDROP THE MOBILE PRESET TO YOUR PHONE.

Making Adjustments

Editing in Adobe Lightroom is not a one size fits all approach. Every photo is different, so after applying my Tropical Sunsets preset or any other preset, you may need to make some small adjustments.

Try playing around with the warmth, exposure, saturation and color tones in the photo until you get your desired result.

You can also adjust the colors in the photo individually – you can also try playing around with the saturation and hues of the pink and orange tones until you’re happy with your photo.
