Acre Baja: A Luxury Treehouse Hotel in Cabo

I’ve been seeing whimsical photos of luxury tree house hotels scattered across Pinterest and Instagram for years. I had gotten hooked on the idea of sleeping up in the trees without having to sacrifice my love of luxury travel, but hadn’t had a chance to make that dream a reality until recently. My dream came true on a recent trip to Baja California Sur, Mexico. Acre Baja is a stunning design oriented property in San José del Cabo and the only luxury treehouse hotel in the area. And yes, I’m 100% sure that Baja California Sur is in Mexico and not California, so don’t forget your passport!

After spending three nights there, Acre Baja has become one of my all time favorite hotels. The hotel’s rustic-luxe design so perfectly complements its setting and every little detail has been carefully considered.  Acre Baja is a truly unique property and worth a visit if you’re in the Cabo area.

I mean, you GET TO SLEEP IN A LUXURY TREEHOUSE HOTEL. A fancy treehouse for grown ups! Who wouldn’t like that?

Where is Acre Baja?

Acre Baja is located in San José del Cabo, which is Cabo San Lucas’s artsier and more down to earth sister. You’re still close to world class beaches, but you also can eat at farm to table restaurants, stay in boutique hotels and visit art galleries.

Acre Baja is the most interesting design hotel in the area. It’s up in the hills that surround San José del Cabo. You’ll need a car to get there (or a taxi driver) and expect to drive down unpaved dirt roads so bring your nerves of steel. It’s about a 40 minute drive from Cabo international airport.

Google maps made it a bit difficult to find the property and we had a couple of stressful moments when I thought we were totally lost, so drive there in daylight if possible. 

Once you pull up to the hotel, you won’t want to leave. This luxury treehouse hotel is a private sanctuary tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Cabo area. To be honest, we loved the Acre Baja property so much, we didn’t end up exploring the surrounding area. Guess I have an excuse to go back!

The Luxury Treehouses

Acre Baja’s 12 luxury treehouses are set within a carefully cultivated jungle of palm trees, agave plants and cacti. Each treehouse is its own little oasis that has an open raised patio, outdoor shower, bathroom, luxury bed linens and a small walk in closet.

I’m a sucker for outdoor showers and it was an incredible experience to shower at night under a blanket of stars. Each treehouse has running water, electricity and good wifi (like, good enough to make two travel bloggers happy!).

The sunset from our elevated patio was an incredible sight to see, since we were close to level with the top of the palm trees. You can open up the front door and side windows of the treehouse to get the breeze, and we didn’t miss having air conditioning at all.

Yes, there are a few bugs. But honestly, Acre Baja had way fewer bugs than we had experienced in other parts of Baja California Sur.

The Pool

The hotel’s communal pool is about as Instagrammable at you can get. In fact, it’s so photogenic that we saw the Cabo tourism board shooting a commercial there during our stay!

Restaurant and Bar

Acre Baja also has an open air farm to table restaurant, cocktail bar and mezcal room on site. Breakfast is included with the room rate, and we at all of our meals at the restaurant during our stay. The food is healthy, locally sourced and satisfying. I’m a big time cocktail girl, and the cocktails were strong and inventive. 

When to Go

Cabo is a great destination for much of the year, other than August and September which are usually hot and rainy. The area gets about 350 days of sunshine per year! Expect higher prices around Christmas, New Years and spring break.
