Belizean Dreams Resort: Where to Stay in Hopkins, Belize
Note: Belizean Dreams hosted us for a complimentary stay but all opinions are my own.
If you’re visiting Hopkins Village, Belize, you won’t find a friendlier place to stay than the Belizean Dreams resort. Belizean Dreams is a beachside all-inclusive resort where you’ll be greeted with a smile every day of your trip. The Belizean Dreams staff truly goes above and beyond to make sure you have a personalized experience during your stay with Belizean Dreams.
Getting to Belizean Dreams
It took us three flights – including a tiny puddle jumper where I got to sit in the co-captain’s seat! – plus a taxi ride to get to Belizean Dreams. We flew from New York to Miami, Miami to Belize City, and then Belize City to Dangriga. We then took a taxi about 45 minutes south to Hopkins, which is a small village on the coast of the Stann Creek District.
Check In and Arrival
Checking in to Belizean Dreams was an absolute breeze. The staff was waiting for us in the reception office with a proposed itinerary. We were quickly whisked away to the beach and poolside bar for a welcome drink and an afternoon snack. Every staff member we encountered introduced themselves and we were greeted by name throughout our trip. It’s sort of like Cheers where everybody knows your name, but the Belizean version!
The Grounds
Belizean Dreams is located directly on a peaceful stretch of beach in the Stann Creek District of Hopkins, Belize. The soft sand is powdery and off-white and the calm water is a greenish dark turquoise color. The beachfront is dotted with hammocks, palapas and sun loungers for guests to enjoy. There are more than enough sun loungers for the resorts, so no need to wake up early to reserve your beachfront seat!
There is an adorable swimming pool between the restaurant and the bar.
The hotel grounds are lush with palm trees and hibiscus plants, with a small fountain in a courtyard midway through the property. This isn’t a giant sprawling complex, but a small boutique resort catering to travelers looking for a more personal feeling.
The Rooms
I love small hotels, so was overjoyed to hear that Belizean Dreams has only 27 rooms. Our beachside room had a large canopy bed, a mini fridge and coffee maker, water cooler, a hairdryer in the bathroom (whew!) and a little patio overlooking the ocean.
I loved waking up in the morning, brewing coffee and enjoying it on our patio before heading to breakfast! Belizean Dreams is east-facing so try to wake up early at least one morning to enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the beach!
Poolside Restaurant
Belizean Dreams recently renovated its restaurant, although we opted to eat all of our meals at the outdoor tables overlooking the swimming pool. My favorite appetizer was the mediterranean flatbread!
Beach Bar
I’m not going to lie, my favorite time of day was when they were serving the “bar snacks” at the beach bar. They definitely aren’t snack sized! I alternated between getting the nachos and the beef sliders during my stay.
Activities
Belizean Dreams offers kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling equipment on site. Although, if you’re like me, you may just want to enjoy the sun loungers and relax on the beach.
If you’re looking for something more adventurous, you can venture offsite on one of their tours! We chose to visit Xunantunich, Belize’s famous Mayan Ruins. Xunantunich is best known for its temple structure called El Castillo, which is more than 130 feet tall (30 meters) and remains the second largest building in all of Belize.
The staff at Belizean Dreams arranged every little detail of our tour, including transportation, a tour guide and lunch at a local restaurant called Benny’s Kitchen. I highly recommend this tour for those interested in learning about Belize’s history.
Who Should Visit Belizean Dreams?
With its laid back, friendly and casual vibe, Belizean Dreams is a great choice for families, groups of friends and couples who are looking for some rest and relaxation and a jumping off point to explore more of Belize.
