Narrowsburg, NY: A Complete Guide
Narrowsburg, NY, has quickly become one of my favorite towns in the Catskills. It’s actually considered a hamlet, but I don’t have a list of my favorite hamlets for comparison!
Located on the banks of the Delaware River, Narrowsburg is the perfect weekend escape from New York for anyone looking for peace and quiet, but who also might want to go for a really great brunch and pop into a few design-forward shops afterward.
Over the years, Narrowsburg has attracted a thriving creative community that makes this town (I mean…hamlet!) really special. It’s one of the things that keeps bringing me back to both Narrowsburg and my other favorite town, Hudson, NY. Keep reading for my complete guide to visiting Narrowsburg, NY!

When to Visit Narrowsburg, NY
Narrowsburg, NY is a year round destination. The fall foliage is beautiful in October and November. In the winter, it’s a cozy place to sit down by a fire with a good book. In the spring, you can enjoy the first warm weather days on a porch with a drink in hand. If you visit Narrowsburg, NY, in the summer, you can escape the crippling New York City heat and go rafting down the Delaware River.
Getting to Narrowsburg, NY
Narrowsburg is about a 2.5 hour drive from New York City. It’s located in the far western Catskills on the banks of the Delaware river. If you cross the river, you’ll find yourself in Pennsylvania.
You will need a car to reach Narrowsburg and get around.
Where to Stay
We always rent an AirBnb when we visit Narrowsburg. In addition to searching for AirBnbs in Narrowsburg, NY, you can also stay in Milanville, PA, or Beach Lake, PA, both of which are about a 15 minute drive to Narrowsburg.
My favorite AirBnb options near Narrowsburg are (I’ve noted the ones we’ve actually stayed at):
- Charming Country Farmhouse (we stayed here on our last visit and loved it)
- Idyllic 1860s Farmhouse (we stayed here on a prior trip and also loved it)
You can click here to sign up and get $40 off your first AirBnb trip.
If a fancy hotel and spa is more your speed, The Lodge at Woodloch in Hawley, PA, is only 25 minutes away from Narrowsburg by car.
Where to Eat + Drink
The Heron
The reason we – and probably many other people – discovered Narrowsburg, was because of The Heron (40 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY). The Heron is farm-to-table restaurant that attracts visitors and locals from all across the Western Catskills.
The Heron serves great food, great cocktails and has a laid back atmosphere.
Don’t be surprised if there’s a wait to get a table inside or on their back patio during the weekend! We usually go for brunch although I’ve heard that dinner at The Heron is also fantastic.
The Emerald Ballroom is a live music venue and bar owned by the same people who own The Heron. It isn’t open every night, so I recommend checking the event schedule on their website before planning to go.
The Laundrette
The Laundrette (20 5th Street, Narrowsburg, NY) is Narrowsburg’s newest stylish restaurant. It’s pretty incredible that such a tiny town (I mean, hamlet!), has two fantastic places to eat.
The Laundrette serves sourdough wood-fired pizza in a former laundromat on the banks of the Delaware River. We had dinner here last time we were in Narrowsburg and I loved it so much, I forgot to take photos!
Where to Shop
Nest
Nest (15 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY) is a 1700 square foot lifestyle boutique that sells home decor, furniture, clothing, accessories and jewelry. It was opened in 2006 by Anna Bern, a former Vogue design director, and really put Narrowsburg’s shopping scene on the map.
Sunny’s Pop
Sunny’s Pop (76 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY) is a boutique owned by Sunrise Ruffalo, who is wife to the well-known actor Mark Ruffalo.
She initially launched Sunny’s Pop in nearby Callicoon, NY, as a summer pop up shop for New Yorkers visiting the Catskills.
The boutique evolved into a permanent store and found its long-term home on Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY. Sunny’s Pop sells a carefully curated selection of home goods and lifestyle items.
One Grand Books
One Grand Books (60 Main Street) is a small bookstore (550 square feet!) with a meticulously selected range of books. Its focus is displaying and selling books recommended by notable artists, thinkers and other creatives.
Maison Bergogne
Exploring Maison Bergogne is a wild ride and feels a bit like falling down the rabbit hole! It is a massive space in a 1920s industrial warehouse, a couple of blocks from Main Street, filled with whimsical and sometimes downright strange antiques, oddities and home goods. Maison Bergogne is open year round but an appointment is required to visit in the winter.
River Gallery
River Gallery (8 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY) is a large space on Main Street full of chic finds for your home. We recently bought a set of cocktail glasses here, after combing through all of the treasures inside the shop. River Gallery is owned by two former fashion industry insiders who decided to make Narrowsburg their permanent home.
MayerWasner
MayerWasner (55 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY) is a fashion boutique owned by Pamela Mayer, a designer who loves working with natural fibers. The shop sells high quality easy knits and relaxed dresses.
Madame Fortuna
Madam Fortuna (25 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY) is a vintage shop on Main Street that encourages you to “channel your inner electic”. I fell in love with their velvet seashell pillows and colorful printed dresses. You can also shop a small selection of their vintage items in their Etsy shop.
Pedro Boregaard
If you’re looking to drop thousands of dollars on a stunning piece of high end jewelry on your weekend jaunt to the Catskills, Pedro Boregaard (101 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY) is the place. I’ve never bought anything from him, but a girl can dream! He is another great example of a creative who fled NYC to settle in idyllic Narrowsburg, bringing his business with him.
Other Activities in Narrowsburg, NY
If you’re looking for something to do in the Narrowsburg area other than stuff yourself full of brunch and shop ’til you drop, you have a number of great options.
You can hike the Tusten Mountain Trail, which is the most popular trail in the area. It’s a moderately difficult 3 mile loop that will give you great views of the Upper Delaware Valley.
If getting in the water is more your thing, when the weather warms up, you can go tubing or rafting down the Delaware River with Landers River Trips.
If you’re a culture vulture, check out the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, which hosts visual, performing, literary, and media art events in the area. Notably, the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance hosts the annual Big Eddy Film Festival at the Tusten Theater in Narrowsburg, NY.
Mildred’s Lane is probably the most interesting cultural experience near Narrowsburg, but one we haven’t yet had a chance to explore. It’s a 95 acre arts complex in nearby Pennsylvania that hosts creative events, workshops and retreats. Visitors must request an invitation to attend events or stay onsite at Mildred’s Lane.
If you’re feeling a bit lazy, there’s no shame in just hanging out at your AirBnb in Narrowsburg, grilling, and having a bonfire. But, if you think I’ve missed any activities in the Narrowsburg area, I’d love to hear about them!
