Courthouse Hotel London: Luxury With a Historic Twist
Note: The Courthouse Hotel London hosted us for a complimentary stay, but, of course, all opinions are my own. As well, this post contains affiliate links. This means that, at no additional cost to you, I will receive a commission or similar benefit if you click through and make a purchase.
I’m a (now non-practicing) lawyer, so after reading a little bit about its history, I jumped at the chance to stay at the Courthouse Hotel London. The Courthouse Hotel London is a luxury hotel conveniently located in the Soho neighborhood of London. But the best part? The Courthouse Hotel London is located in a former courthouse where the legal battles of high profile people like Mick Jagger, John Lennon and Oscar Wilde played out. If you’re looking for a unique place to stay in London without sacrificing comfort and convenience, the Courthouse Hotel London is a great choice.
Location of the Courthouse Hotel London
The Courthouse Hotel London is located at 19 – 21 Great Marlborough St, Soho, London W1F 7HL, UK.
That’s right in the middle of London’s famous Soho neighborhood. This means that there are ample shopping and dining options right outside the hotel.
The hotel is also right near Carnaby Street, which has been a famous fashion and shopping destination since the 1960s.
The Rooms
We stayed in a Superior King room toward the front of the hotel. Soho is a bustling neighborhood, and we were impressed at how quiet our room was given the busy street below.
Our room was a good size for two people given that the Courthouse Hotel London is located at the heart of the city. As you would expect from a 5 star hotel, we had plush bathrobes to wear during our stay and a big soaker tub.
The room was decorated in rich darker colors that matched the historic feeling of the building.
The Courthouse Hotel London Lobby
The hotel’s lobby is full of brightly colored couches and plush chairs. It’s a great spot to wait if you arrive at the hotel and need to do a little work before your room is ready.
There aren’t power outlets available, so if you’re planning to work in the lobby, I’d suggest making sure your laptop is fully charged beforehand.
The Restaurants
We didn’t have an opportunity to dine at the hotel. But I wish we had a chance to eat at Silk Restaurant.
Silk Restaurant has been set up in the meticulously restored main courtroom where famous trials used to play out. The room looks just like how I’d envision an old fashioned courthouse – oak panelling, a judge’s bench, dock and a witness stand.
Now THAT would be a unique place to have dinner with some of my old lawyer friends, right?
The Courthouse Hotel London also houses Soho Wala, a colorful Indian restaurant.
The Bar + Rooftop
My favorite part of the hotel is The Bar. Located just off the hotel lobby, The Bar includes 3 of the original jail cells from when the courthouse was operational.
These holding cells are now used as VIP rooms. So, you and up to 7 friends can lounge on a former prison bed and sip legal themed cocktails like the “Sweet Escape”.
I’ve lived in NYC for over a decade, and I thought I had seen it all. But the holding cells turned VIP rooms were definitely something I had never seen before!
The hotel also has a popular rooftop bar called Toy Roof if you’re looking to imbibe outdoors. Well, assuming it isn’t raining. London can be a bit damp, after all!
Other Amenities
The Courthouse Hotel London has an underground heated indoor pool, sauna, spa and gym. I made sure to use the pool before we left – it felt extremely luxurious to go swimming in one of London’s most exclusive neighborhoods.
If you’re a movie lover, be sure to check out the schedule at the hotel’s screening room. Movies are screened every Saturday night. The cinema seats up to 100 people and is apparently one of the largest private cinemas in all of London.
Overall, we had a great stay at the Courthouse Hotel London. If you’re looking for a hyper modern hotel, this isn’t the place for you. But if you’re looking for old-school luxury with a (legal) twist, check out the Courthouse Hotel London. Maybe even bring a lawyer friend, or two! You can click here to make your booking.
What’s the most interesting hotel you’ve ever stayed at?
