My Daily Skincare Routine in the Winter: MDSolarSciences Review
Note: This post is sponsored by MDSolarSciences. As always, all opinions are my own.
Winter can be tough on your skin because the air is so cold and dry, which is why it’s important to have a winter skincare routine. Also, a lot of people forget that it’s critical to wear sunscreen during the winter months. As someone who grew up in Canada, I’ve seen my fair share of sunburns from people who forgot to apply their winter sunscreen! The winter sun is no joke.
This winter, I’ve been using a lot of products from MDSolarSciences in my daily skincare routine, including serums, mineral sunscreen and lip balm. I’m excited to share these MDSolarSciences products with you because they’ve been keeping my skin hydrated and protected from the sun all winter long.
I was first introduced to MDSolarSciences two years ago and have been using their products ever since. So, it’s safe to say I’m a big fan of the brand.

MDSolarSciences: The Brand
Introduction to MDSolarSciences
MDSolarSciences offers clean, cruelty-free and reef-safe skincare and suncare. Their products include serums, moisturizers, sunscreens and lip care.
I was first introduced to MDSolarSciences two years ago and have been using their products ever since, because they are non-irritating to my sensitive skin, their mineral sunscreens are an absolute dream (more on that later!) and the company cares about protecting ocean life and our reefs.
Why I Trust MDSolarSciences
MDSolarSciences never uses oxybenzone or octinoxate in their products, which are two ingredients that are known to both irritate skin and also cause harm to ocean life. As someone who has sensitive skin and also as someone who cares about our environment and animals, it’s so nice to know that I can trust MDSolarSciences products.
I’m a frequent traveler and protecting our reefs is important to me. That’s why I only buy and use reef safe sunscreen on both my face and body.
Plus, as a bonus, MDSolarSciences has a female CEO, which is something I love to see and support.
My Winter Morning Skincare Routine with MDSolarSciences: Serums
My Skin Type + Basic Routine
I’m in my 30’s and have dry, sensitive and aging skin which means that I need to focus on keeping my skin hydrated and also protected from the sun.
I start off my winter morning skincare routine with a gentle cleanser and then apply a hyaluronic acid serum.
My next step is applying the Daily Eye Repair Emulsion from MDSolarSciences on my under eye area. I use my ring finger to tap it in and try not to tug on my skin, which I’ve read can cause wrinkles.
The Daily Eye Repair Emulsion Ingredients + Benefits
The Daily Eye Repair Emulsion from MDSolarSciences contains a blend of nourishing peptides and antioxidants to help reduce the signs of sun damage. It also contains 24-hour time-released moisturizers and humectants, caffeine and niacinamide to help diminish the appearance of undereye puffiness, dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles. Those are literally all concerns that I have with my undereye area. I need all the help that I can get in that area!
I love this serum because it’s non-greasy, which means it’s great under makeup. I have undereye circles that just won’t go away, which means I wear a lot of full coverage concealer. I can’t use anything greasy under my eyes, otherwise my concealer just slips off.
The Daily Eye Repair Emulsion from MDSolarSciences doesn’t interfere with my undereye concealer at all. It has a silky finish that actually helps me apply my concealer more smoothly and it doesn’t clump when I apply powder over top of my concealer.
It’s also fragrance free, which is important to me because my skin is sensitive. I try to avoid using heavy scented products on my face because fragrance can be irritating to sensitive skin.
Next Steps in My Skincare Routine
I then move to the next step of my winter morning skincare routine by applying a moisturizer all over my face – I generally use a heavier one during the winter months, and a lighter water-based formula once the weather warms up. I then move onto sun protection.
My Winter Morning Skincare Routine with MDSolarSciences: Sunscreen
Winter Sunscreen is a Must
Repeat after me: winter sunscreen is NOT OPTIONAL. Winter sunscreen is NOT OPTIONAL!
One of the biggest mistakes you can make with your skin is not protecting it from the sun. And I don’t mean just wearing sunscreen when it’s hot out. As someone who grew up on the ski slopes in Canada, I’ve seen my fair share of winter sunburns. They’re brutal. And a bad ski goggle tan or sunburn takes weeks to fade. It’s not a cute look!
Wearing sunscreen year-round is one of the easiest ways to take care of your skin and prevent the signs of aging.
But I’ll be totally honest – I was really inconsistent with sunscreen until I started using the Mineral Tinted Crème SPF 30 and Mineral Crème SPF 50 from MDSolarSciences. MDSolarSciences has the best sunscreen for the winter months. Keep reading to find out why.
Mineral Tinted Crėme SPF 30 – Ingredients + Benefits
The key active ingredients for sun protection in the Mineral Tinted Crème SPF 30, a tinted mineral sunscreen, are 2.1% Titanium Dioxide and 17% Zinc Oxide. It also contains antioxidants, Vitamin C, Green Tea, cranberry fruit and pomegranate extracts to help my skin look healthy and glowing.
I used to think of facial sunscreen as something greasy that would make me break out, make my face look chalky and cause my makeup to slip off. I actually rarely break out, but a lot of traditional sunscreens give me acne or make my skin bumpy.
But that all changed when I tried the mineral sunscreens from MDSolarSciences. The Mineral Tinted Crème SPF 30 has a subtle warm tint so you don’t get any white cast on your face and it helps even out my skin tone before I even apply foundation. This tinted mineral sunscreen is a staple in my skincare routine.
The consistency is smooth, silky and non-greasy and it has a matte finish. It feels more like a primer than a sunscreen. I apply the MDSolarSciences Mineral Tinted Crème SPF 30 every single day after I moisturize, but before I put on my foundation.
I use the Mineral Crème SPF 50 from MDSolarSciences on days when I need more sun protection – for example, on a winter ski day when I’m worried about the sun reflecting off the snow. It has the same silky finish as the tinted mineral sunscreen version, but needs a bit more blending in to ensure you don’t have any white cast.
I like to keep a tube of Mineral Tinted Crème SPF 30 in my handbag so I can reapply it as needed throughout the day. It has a silky smooth finish even when I apply it over top of my makeup. This is a skincare product I can’t live without and it’s a staple in my daily skincare routine in the winter. It’s the absolute best tinted mineral sunscreen I’ve tried and I can’t recommend it enough.
My Winter Morning Skincare Routine with MDSolarSciences: Lipcare
My lips get so dry and chapped in the winter. I have to keep them moisturized and protected all day, or they start cracking and peeling. Plus, I make a point of wearing SPF on my lips every day to help prevent sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles.
That’s why I finish off my winter skincare routine by protecting my lips with MDSolarSciences Hydrating Sheer Lip Balm SPF 30. It comes in 3 sheer flattering colors: pink, red and nude. During the winter, the nude and the red are my go-to shades.
Hydrating Sheer Lip Balm SPF 30: Ingredients + Benefits
MDSolarSciences Hydrating Sheer Lip Balm SPF 30 includes moisturizing ingredients like shea, avocado and olive butters, it’s 100% vegan and gluten-free, and I like that it doesn’t leave a sticky residue.
This lip balm not only moisturizes my lips, but it also protects them from the sun. I love how it combines color/tint with sun protection – I’m not the kind of person who wants a 30-step skincare and makeup routine.
My lips chap so easily, so I keep a tube in my handbag for touch-ups during the day.
My Winter Evening Skincare Routine with MDSolarSciences
Like my morning routine, I like to keep my evening skincare routine simple. I start off with a gentle cleanser and then move onto applying serums.
I apply MDSolarSciences Daily Eye Repair Emulsion around my under eye area. Then, I apply the Evening Facial Repair Serum all over the rest of my face and my neck.
Evening Facial Repair Serum: Ingredients + Benefits
The MDSolarSciences Evening Facial Repair Serum contains 0.75% retinol to help reduce fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of past sun damage. This is so important to me as a woman in my 30s. I unfortunately spent a few years in my teens trying to be as tanned as possible (*cringe*), and I now need to use powerful ingredients like retinol to undo that past damage.
This serum also contains caffeine, niacinamide and nourishing peptides to help reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, redness and pores.
It also has calming agents like chamomile, seaweed extract, caffeine and aloe vera to help fight winter redness. Which is a real thing – if I don’t take care of my skin in the winter, I look like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer… And that’s not a cute look for a woman in her 30s.
MDSolar Sciences Evening Facial Repair Serum is one of the secret anti-aging weapons in my winter skincare routine.
Final Steps in My Evening Routine
I finish off my nighttime winter skincare routine for my dry skin by applying rosehip oil on my face and neck.
MDSolarSciences: My Overall Review
I’m a big fan of MDSolarSciences and have been using their products for the last two years. Their products are ideal for sensitive skin like mine, they are cruelty free, and their mineral sunscreens are a must-have in any skincare routine. You won’t find a mineral sunscreen with a better consistency and finish.
My favorites from MDSolarSciences are:
- Daily Eye Repair Emulsion
- Mineral Tinted Crème SPF 30
- Evening Facial Repair Serum
- Hydrating Sheer Lip Balm SPF 30
These products from MDSolarSciences are staples in my winter skincare routine and I can’t recommend them enough.
